A Rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure used to reshape the shape, contour and proportion of the nose. Most people have nose surgery to straighten the bridge of the nose, alter the size or shape of the tip, reduce a hump or bump on the bridge of the nose or narrow the nostrils. There may also be medical reasons for nose surgery especially for those with breathing difficulties due to blocked nasal passages (deviated septum). The procedure used to reshape the nose is vastly improved. Surgeons work inside the nose and nostrils, separating the outer skin from the underlying bone and cartilage which is then resculpted to a more desirable shape. The surgeon can remove a bump on the bridge, reshape the tip of the nose and reduce the width of the base of the nose by removing small wedges of skin and bringing them closer together. The procedure takes roughly one to two hours, longer for more extensive reconstruction and is performed in the doctor's office under local anesthesia. After surgery a tape, acting much like a splint is worn for several days. This procedure is the most common procedure performed on teenagers and can also be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery.
