Introduction
Liposuction is the removal of fat through suctioning or vacuuming. It is the number one procedure requested today and is used almost routinely in a wide range of cosmetic surgery procedures including face and neck lifts, tummy tucks and breast surgery. Originated by a French surgeon in the 1970s, liposuction was introduced into the U.S. and quickly evolved into a highly skilled surgical process allowing the surgeon to literally resculpt the human body. New Advancements Liposuction today is much different than the liposuction of 30 years ago. Today it has undergone many advancements including the introduction of the Smart Lipo laser liposuction. This advancement allows the surgeon to finely sculpt the areas of fat removal into a more pleasing contour and shape. Who is a candidate for liposuction? It is generally used for people who have localized deposits of fat around the hips, saddle bag thighs, inner thighs, buttocks, love handles around the waist, and extra fat around the tummy. It can also be used to tighten a loose neck where there is excess fat under the chin and jaw line. The procedure is performed on men and women of all ages. Where is the procedure performed? Liposuction is performed under local sedation in the doctor's office. The procedure usually lasts one to two hours, depending on the areas being suctioned. Are there any risks? Although liposuction is considered safe it is a surgical procedure and should be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who has many years experience. Complications may include infection, skin irregularity and nerve damage. Typically, patients will experience some bruising and swelling immediately after surgery which will disappear. What about Cellulite? Cellulite is a common complaint for women, can be treated with Triactive™ Cellulite reducer. Triactive™ is the first non-invasive laser to effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite.
